Appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics through the examination of its nature, development, utility, and relationship with culture and society. The course provides a view of mathematics as a living, growing, creative human endeavor that is regarded as both a science and an art. It aims to give students opportunities for discovering different dimensions of mathematics as a way of thinking and knowing. It fosters cultural, social, aesthetic, and recreational values.

PHILARTS 1PHILIPPINE ARTS AND CULTURE.
Approaches and issues in Philippine Arts and Culture. PHILARTS 1 seeks to deepen the studentsā€™ understanding of the interrelationship of life and art practices in everyday life. It examines the valuations of Philippine art in relation to cultural practices and social processes in various communities and thus broaden the conception of art in the context of societal changes. PHILARTS 1 will train students to understand Philippine art through the lens of ideology, locally grounded aesthetics, and local and global societal forces.

Understanding the self and appreciating human agency and the emergence of the self in different social contexts. SAS 1 incorporates a wide array of disciplines in capturing the complex nature of personhood and the intricate relationship between persons and their sociocultural and biophysical environment; emphasizes oneā€™s situatedness and agency; takes into account the studentsā€™ developmental stage; sufficiently discusses the Filipino self, as well as the self in a postmodern or digital world, and ensures the balance between conceptual/theoretical discussions and practical applications.

SCIENCE 10PROBING THE PHYSICAL WORLD.
Understanding the origin of the universe, synthesis of the elements, formation of the earth and the various critical issues affecting our worldview and our planet. SCIENCE 10 combines essential concepts and principles of physics, chemistry, and earth science to impart a concise understanding and means to understand the structure and dynamics of the physical world across a wide range of space and time scales. This course gives due attention to the place of humanity in the physical context. Through various physical concepts in physics, chemistry, and earth science, SCIENCE 10 intends to situate the student in the context of the changing universe, and to emphasize the impact and interconnectedness of human activity on the various physical phenomena that confront human beings and their surroundings. This will enable them to craft effective and appropriate decisions and responses to challenges in the physical world.

SCIENCE 11LIVING SYSTEMS: CONCEPTS AND DYNAMICS.
Principles, interactions, and contemporary issues concerning living systems. SCIENCE 11 allows the learner to understand and appreciate underlying concepts and principles that govern all living forms. Dynamics and interactions of individual cells, organisms and populations with their environments will be discussed to challenge the learner to think critically and harness creativity. Themes of life applicable to other academic fields will be analyzed.

A cross-cultural survey of gender and sexuality, applying perspectives from the different social sciences.
